The Defelsko PosiTest DFT Coating Thickness gauges are able to measure coatings on ALL metal substrates.  ​

 The PosiTest DFT is available in two models.  The Ferrous which measures non-magnetic coatings on steel & the Combo which measures both non-magnetic coatings on steel AND non-conductive coatings on aluminum, brass, etc. 

 Easy to use gauge automatically recognises the substrate with no user input required, and takes a fast & reliable reading every time.

What is a Coating Thickness Gauge?

A Coating Thickness Gauge, also often referred to as a paint meter, or paint depth gauge) is used to measure dry film thickness of a coating/paint on a number of different material substrates.  It's a critical measurement in a wide number of industries.

  •  Used throughout the automotive industry by manufacturers to check paint coatings are within specified tolerances

  • Body-shops & collision repair companies.

  • Paint detailers prior to machine polishing to check for previous repair & paint thicknesses.

  • And even for those making a purchase of a car to check for previous repairs carried out as paint thickness will always be higher from a previous repair than by the OEM.

  • A wide range of non-automotive uses, any industry that is using a paint/coating as part of a final stage for appearance & product life-span.

How does it work?

 

A question we often get asked, a coating thickness gauge works by sending a pulse through the coating to the substrate until it bounces back from the substrate to the transducer & this reading is then converted into a high-frequency electronic signal.  The echo waveform is then analysed to determine the coating thickness.
